Rebecca Peters
Rebecca Peters is the President of the Berkeley Water Group, an interdisciplinary research team of students from the University of California, Berkeley that unites the fields of international development, public health, and engineering around the theme of water. She co-founded and teaches a course on international human rights and water, while simultaneously collaborating with faculty and students to establish a Water Science, Sustainability, and Policy minor program.

Rebecca has extensively traveled and worked around the world in Guatemala, Denmark, Mexico, France, Costa Rica, and Australia on the intersections of water, energy, and food issues. She served two years on the University Union Advisory Board as a representative of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and has published on agriculture issues in the University’s annual literary journal.

As part of her field experience she spent three months in Cochabamba, Bolivia as a partner with the Foundation for Sustainable Development and Water for People to develop water treatment programs for neglected schools. Her ongoing work includes a water, sanitation, and gender equality campaign through the Pachamama Project to improve girl’s school attendance. She recently finished an honors thesis on peri-urban water access in Bolivia, and will write a second on the impacts of institutions of global governance on creating water management norms in the global South.
