Jim Harkness

Jim Harkness is the President of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) in Minneapolis, MN. Since his arrival in 2006, he has strengthened IATP’s work on food systems, climate change and social justice. Jim lived and worked in China for 16 years before joining IATP, serving as Country Director of the World Wildlife Fund in China from 1999-2005, and as the Ford Foundation's Environment and Development Program Officer for China from 1995-1999. He has written and spoken frequently on food and agriculture issues, China and sustainable development, and has served as an adviser for the World Bank and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. He has a B.A. in Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin and a M.S. in Development Sociology from Cornell University.
